Located in the heart of Piscataquis County, Nahmakanta Public Reserve is 43,000 acres of wildlife-rich forests, low ledge-covered mountains, numerous streams, narrow gorges, and 24 great ponds. Visitors venture to this remote area throughout the year for hiking, fishing, ATVing, hunting, snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing. The Land for Maine’s Future Board supported the acquisition of 29,692 acres of the Nahmakanta Public Reserve in 1990.
