Located just east of the Greater Bangor Area, the Amherst Mountains Community Forest offers outdoor recreation experiences with a quiet, remote feel. Short hiking trails lead to scenic bluffs and secluded ponds. The 4,974-acre property also showcases snowmobiling, paddling, birdwatching, backcountry camping, hunting, and fishing opportunities. It is owned by the state, but cooperatively managed with the town. The Land for Maine’s Future Board supported the acquisition of Amherst Mountains in 2009.
