Located in the town of Calais, this 319-acre municipal conservation area features nearly three miles of hiking trails including a 1.8-mile loop to the 340-foot summit of Devil’s Head. The trail offers several scenic viewpoints of the Saint Croix River, and the nearby St. Croix International Historic Site, the location of Maine’s first French settlement in 1604. The property’s sandy beach invites exploration and there are many opportunities for wildlife observation. The Land for Maine’s Future Board supported acquisition of Devil’s Head in 2003.
