Gulf Hagas–Whitecap

Located in Piscataquis County, Gulf Hagas–Whitecap is a 10,000-acre conservation area containing productive forestlands, numerous campsites, hiking trails, and a segment of the popular Interconnected Trail System for snowmobiles. This Forest Society of Maine led project also protects eastern brook trout habitat and supports Atlantic salmon restoration. In 2016, the Land for Maine’s Future Board supported the acquisition of a 1,264-acre parcel now owned and managed by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, as well as a working forest conservation easement on 7,138 adjacent acres of land.
