Mattawamkeag River

Located in northern Penobscot County, Mattawamkeag River is home to an 11,299-acre IF&W Wildlife Management Area that is a popular destination for paddlers, anglers, and hunters. The area’s diverse habitats and extensive wetlands are important to a number of wildlife species, such as migratory waterfowl, moose, bear, and other large game. The Land for Maine’s Future Board supported the acquisition of 6,748 acres of the Mattawamkeag River WMA in 1990 and 2003.
